Crochet Ripple and Granny Update

Here is what I've been doing...

2012 A Granny A Day...yes I know...there is only 12 and this is the 17th day but...I ran out of Vanna's Choice -Brick...so I went to my local Michael's store, (where I bought the Brick and Mustard a while back) and guess what?? They don't carry the Brick anymore!! UGGHHH! Why do they do that? This was my first time buying Vanna's Choice and I loved the Mustard and
Brick together. I made a pincushion with it and this was leftover from that. I thought I would start with these because I knew I could buy more as needed. WRONG! So...These squares will be a Pillow Top. I'm not really thrilled with yarn anyway, it splits really bad it not worth the price. I am disappointed in my Michael's and Lion Brand for making a cheap yarn.

Well... enough whining for one day... now on to my 12" January Crochet Block a Month!

I went back to my trusty Caron Simply Soft, which I used for my giant granny blanket. This is the first 12" square for this CAL! I love this pattern, I had made this before when I did the A Square a Day in May last year and it is a great pattern.

Now, this square was a "Filler" square option. I made this because I had made the above square and still had time left in the month to make this "Filler" square to fill the time before the February squares are announce.
I enjoyed making this one and it had great pattern instructions so it was easy to follow. Kind of fun too!

And of course my progress on my Rainbow Ripple blanket...

It is getting bigger! I'm going to be so sad when it is done. This had been the most relaxing and satisfying blanket I have every made. The colors keep me interested and the pattern and yarn just flow together so easily. It's going by fast and I will be sad when it is done...:( Crazy...I know.

Thank you for all you kind comments on my posts. I really do appreciate it. You all keep me going on my projects and inspire me.

This is where I'm hooking up this week!

  1. Eileen, did you try Michael's online store or Joann Fabrics and Crafts for your yarn. If you love the colors don't give up yet. I can even run over to my Michael's and see if they have any for you if you want. Love your ripple, I have yet to succumb to the temptation of the ripple, I am trying to be strong.

    1. Meredith,

That is so sweet of you to offer! Joann's has it but I didn't want to pay shipping. I guess I will just order more yarn. Isn't that a shame? Lol. Thanks for the nice comment.

  2. Oh, your ripple looks fabulous! ♥
And what a bummer for the other project... Would this mean you have to start all over for the granny-a-day or do you end up with two projects? Good luck!

  4. Definitely don't give up on trying to find the colors. Did you ask your Michaels why they stopped carrying it? Sometimes if they know someone will be buying it, they'll stock it for awhile. Love how your ripple is coming along, I just started using the Stylecraft Special DK for a different BAM blanket group and I'm in love with it having never used it before! Your BAM blocks look great, I'm using Caron for mine as well but in the One Pound, not the Simply Soft (which I also love).

    1. Oh please don't take my word for it. I actually only had one skein that was bad and maybe my Michael's buys seconds or something, I love Lion Brand and Vanna's yarn has been around a long time. I encourage you to try it for yourself before you decide against it. Thanks fore the sweet comments.

  7. I understand your dissappointment with the cheap yarn. When I just started to crochet I didn't see why anyone would buy 'expensive' yarn and only bought very very very cheap acrylic yarn. It splitted, it turning all fuzzy and ugly after using it a while. I only looked at the color to see if I liked it. Now I check the material and the brand and I found some pretty cheap yarn that works like a charm. Although most of the new yarn I buy tends be more expensive than I used to use hahahaha.

That ripple makes me want to ripple too! Time for a baby blanket for my aunt.

  14. Love all your squares, but that sucks about them not carrying the yarn you need. I hate when that happens...especially when you counted on the opposite! Love the ripple too...so bright and cheery!

  18. Michaels carry's very little yarn anymore here in this area. Think they've cut back alot because we have so many really nice yarn shops they just couldn't keep up. I never count on being able to get more yarn and always buy more then I need, thinking I'll take it back, which I never do. lol Interesting colors together; but why not use shades of both of those colors and keep going with your blanket? Doesn't have to be the same brand, just same weight. Brown in several shades, gold in several shades, a deeper burgundy even would blend really nicely with those initial colors.

  19. Grrr, that would be frustrating! Not being able to buy more of the same at Michaels!

Love the filler square! Very cute!

  20. Very frustrating isn't when you think you can get more yarn for a project then you can't. Love the two granny patterns especially the first one

  21. I've never made a ripple before. Right now I am working on a baby granny stripe using my stash that I am afraid will deplete before it's the right size. :/ Looks like you got lots to keep you busy. Have a great weekend. Tammy
