My First Cardigan: Tah Dah!!!

This is a big Tah Dah for me.  My first cardigan is finished! Yay! I actually like it.  Being able to make it “custom fit” is awesome.  I made mine long and with short sleeves.  I haven’t added the button yet because I’m not sure I want too. I wouldn’t wear it with the button closed anyway so why add it?  Also, I’m not sure where I want to put the button. At the top neckline or lower across my chest?  I think I will leave it off for now.
The trim is my own. I did a single crochet down the sides and around the neck.  Then I did a double crochet skipping one sc around the neck. Then two rows of sc to finish it off!

I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I like the color and yes “I love this yarn” yarn is very nice.  I can’t believe I made this sweater for $7.50. That’s amazing. Will I make it again? You betcha!
I have a feeling I will wear this to work a lot!

Finishing projects on Sundays is no fun. I have to wait until Friday for Finished Object Fridays!
J
Someone needs a “Finished over the weekend” Link Party! Maybe I will do that…need a catchier name though…any ideas? Post your thoughts or ideas in the comments! Who knows? It could be a fun way to start the week…

Okay, now for the stats:
Yarn: 3 skeins of I Love This Yarn Super Soft Sport Weight

A Fun Cowl CAL starting Januay 1, 2013!

Hi All...

Here is a fun, new crochet-a-long for a cute cowl starting tomorrow. I found this CAL at Tracyann's blog yesterday and signed up. I have seen this pattern on Pinterest and had it in my queue on Ravelry for a awhile. I absolutely love this pattern. It is so different from all the other cowls I've seen. This CAL goes from Jan. 1-31, 2013.

Now that I have signed up for this, I've decided to use my beautiful Cascade Vino yarn for this instead of the cardigan. I didn't have enough of this yarn to make the cardigan and since I bought it in Colorado there is no hope of matching the lot#'s. So I need to buy some new yarn to make my cardigan. Oh darn, I have to go yarn shopping now. :) I'll let you know what yarn I get and post pictures when I get it and get started on my cardigan.

I am going to start this cowl today because I'm so excited to use this yarn and to try this pattern. Also, I'm off for three days and I don't have a crochet project on my hook right now. Of course I could work some ends in on an afghan that I need to add a border too but that's no fun!

I hope some of you sign up for this CAL and join me and Tracyann as we make this beautiful cowl.

Happy Crocheting!

Purple Plum Cowl/Scarf-Tah Dah!

Purple Plum Cowl/Scarf-Tah Dah!

This was so easy and I don't know why I waited so long to finally give this Time Out Cowl pattern a try. I know a lot of you made it last year and I had it in my queue at Ravelry forever. The yarn turned out to be a nice surprise. It is Bernat Satin Solids in Plum Mist and I loved. So easy to work with, no splitting, it has a slight shimmer to it and the color is very rich. I plan to make lots of these for Christmas gifts this year. The girls at work will love it!

Thank you for all your kind comments you left me on my last post. It's nice to know you are there for me!

Baby Giraffe for Baby Emma!

Meet baby Emma's new baby giraffe toy...

I know...isn't she something else? (Not sure what but she is something?) Please don't look to close...this little baby giraffe is far from perfect. This is my first attempt at Amigurumi, I'm sure you can tell.

There is nothing straight on this little baby. Everything is crooked, which I hope adds to the charm. My daughter laughed when I gave it to her and said she loved it. Not sure the laughing was a good thing. She was borderline Hysterical laughing!

Well, all I can say is I'm so glad it's over and I will not make anything, (teddy bears, etc.) again in the near future. I am not saying never again because I may have a total lapse of memory and want to make another little something. But...I hope I don't forget what a pain in the a** this was to make.  So...if you are glutton for punishment...here is the pattern and details on Ravelry.

More tah dah's coming soon!

Happy Crocheting!

Crochet for All Seasons!

How does your local seasonal weather affect your craft?

For me it really doesn't all that much. I went back through my photos for 2011, (as you can tell I love Flickr)and in Winter I finished this "Homespun Ripple"...

Homespun Ripples

Finished this Pillow in the Spring...

Pillow1
and this one...

New Pillows Front Close1
and this cute little "Green Blossom Dishcloth"...

Green Blossom Dishcloth

and still in Spring this "African Flower Soccer Ball", ( I noticed I crochet a lot of more items in the Spring and seem to challenge myself, i.e. this ball and the dishcloth above, very adventurous for me!).
African Flower Soccer Ball1

Then here comes June and the hot days of Summer and what do I start my new project...

Granny Stripe New Colors1

CRAZY!! :) I know... you would think I would do some of the cute "little items" like I did in the Spring...but now Summer comes and I finish my daughters "Rainbow Granny Stripe" that is a wool and acrylic blend.

Oh yes, I am a rebel...don't tell me I can't make blankets in the Summer! I'll show you...

I'll start another one...my "Giant Granny" just because it is a CAL I couldn't resist.

Then comes Fall/Winter and what am I crocheting?   In October a baby blanket for the new grand daughter of a friend of mine at work, (little did I know I would soon find out I am getting one of those for myself)!

BabyBlanket

Then, I made some progress on my "Blues" blanket. This is a UFO for now, I thought I was done and ready for the border until I laid it out on my bed and Oooops! I was using the wrong size hook for about the last half of it so it is longer on one half than the other. I have to say this is so embarrassing. No picture of that catastrophe...I counted and counted across all the different rows and the count was the same as the beginning rows...then it dawned on me that my count was right but my hook was not. I went from a "G" hook to an "H" hook and didn't even realize until I thought it was finished! Uggggh! It still isn't frogged, I just have it sitting there staring at me thinking...."how could you be so dumb?" So I really need to finish it soon so I won't feel so dumb anymore! :)

Bluesgrannystripe2

Now... some seasonal stuff during the season it should be worn...Winter Scarves! This first one I gave to my daughter after I added some fringe. She loves it!

New Yarn

This one I gave to Goodwill during my Spring Cleaning...

woolscarf1

and this one went to Goodwill too.

sequinscarf

I finished up my Giant Granny CAL...

Giant Granny

and made some Christmas Stockings for the girls at work. I put little candy treats, (all chocolate of course) in them and after the treats were gone... they were perfect little ornaments to go on their tree! They were a big hit. Hmmmm...what will I do this year? I better start thinking about that one.

Stockings

So...there you have it. The seasons don't seem to make much difference to me, I make what I want, when I want to. Now that's fun!Use this tag 3KCBWDAY4 to search on Google and read about other bloggers Crocheter Seasonal blog.

Happy Crocheting!

Color? How Do You Choose?

When I choose colors for my projects I am all over the place! When I look at my finished projects just for the last year it is very clear I don't have a "system" or any one color that I predominantly choose.

As you can see I am about as random as they come. It seems I am drawn to a rainbow of bright hues, nothing subdued in my selections! I have done extensive studies of how to choose the "right" colors for a project. Of course we all love Lucy's colors at Attic 24 so I studied her system of choosing colors and I just didn't get it!!

I don't have any art school training and I kind of have a basic understanding how the color wheel works but, I still don't know what colors look good with other colors and why.

Do I really want to know this much about color? No, not really. I just want to be sure the items I crochet are pleasing to look at and basically look pretty. Isn't that what we all want? Do we really need to know all this information about color theory, hues, tones, etc.?

Well, I think to a certain extent we do. A lot of us ask our readers/followers about our yarn color choices for our next project, so we can get reassurance that our choices are "okay". It's nice to know that others agree with our choices or don't as the case may be.

Of course we can also check with the new "Color Generators." These are pretty cool but I still end up confused because they seem to be very random!

This site called Design Seeds is pretty awesome if I want to take the time to use it. It will search for colors by hue, or even themes like flora, vintage, vacation, winter, etc. It seems to be more useful to me than just color generator. It gives you several swatches from a photo.

Okay, I have given you a lot of options for picking colors for your projects but how do I do it? I try to look at nature for my decorating and my crochet projects. If a flower is pretty then the colors in it will look pretty in a crochet project. Mostly though, I go with the yarn that is in used in the pattern. It looks good so why try and reinvent the wheel?

I know this probably limits me in my choices but some sites like Lion Brand show the same pattern with different colored yarns. They also have a pattern that goes with the yarns you like so when you pick a yarn you would like to use, at the bottom you can see crochet or knit patterns made with that yarn. For example, I looked at the Amazing yarn and then crochet patterns and then I got lots of crochet patterns using Amazing yarn. How easy is that? Use this tag 3KCBWWDAY1 to search on google and read what the other bloggers are saying about color!

Finished April Square Crochet-a-long

This is my square for 2012-April Food & Fiber CAL. It is called Manny Ann's Square by Kimberly Biberstein

Also...some news about my little baby cocoon...

This is crazy...I went to visit my friend Cindy in the hospital, (she has Brain Cancer), and her sister was there. I always bring my show and tell items I've made because she is a crocheter, yarn junkie, and knitter too. When I showed them the Baby Cocoon her sister said "I need some of those do you sell them?" I said "oh no I just made this one for my grand daughter." She said she would give me $25 for it. I said, "Deal". I figured I have plenty of time to make one for Baby Emma and so I ordered some more yarn in pink with the money from selling that cocoon! Pretty cool, huh! They just went nuts over that thing. Of course with that yarn, (Red Heart Buttercup Yarn) is very soft and snuggly.

Oh well...That's it for now. I have to get back to my Spring Cleaning. I'm not getting much crocheting done on my "vacation" but wow...my kitchen is shining. I even moved out the stove and refrigerator and cleaned underneath them. Yuck! Well, what can I say. Baby Emma has motivated me to have a spotless house. I was so surprised how dirty everything was in there. Now I have to keep it this way until August! Uggh! This could definitely
cut into my crocheting time. Oh well, it will be worth it!

Happy Easter Everyone!!

Three Crochet Tah Dahs!!!

Three Crochet Tah Dahs!!

I am so excited to show you  three finished items for the new Grand Daughter...That's right

It's a GIRL!!

I know...I am so excited! How fun is that??

Anyway, soon every thing will be Pink of course but first I had to finish my neutral projects that I had already bought yarn for.

My first project is a Baby Cocoon...The yarn says it is light Mint Green but it looks blue to me. Oh well, it will be snuggly and warm for Emma Marie...Love her little name don't you?

Also, by the way, I am on vacation this week doing my Spring Cleaning...can't you tell with all the items I have finished?? Lol!
This little thing measures 24" in Diameter and 21" long. This only took me a day to finish. Super easy and fun to do.
I have organized some of my yarn in a three drawer plastic container on wheels. It was full of old scrapbooking stuff I haven't used for years...So I sorted it by trash, keep, and give away and I managed to empty the drawers to put some of my yarn in. Only some of it...I think I would need about 4 or 5 more of those for all of my yarn. I know...that's a lot of stash and I have no idea how it happened!! Lol.

Anyway...back to my lovely baby Tah Dahs!!
Here is the lovely pale yellow popcorn stitch Baby Blanket. It measures approximately 28" X 28" and  all the ends are woven in...

This little thing is so light weight and soft and snuggly, I think it will probably end up being one of my daughters faves!

Next we have the long awaited reveal of the finished super soft, super chunky, Baby Blanket Ripple...

BI like the way this turned out...I still have to finish weaving in all the ends. They are really fat so I bought a yarn threader so it will be easy to get the yarn in the eye of the needle...

I really like this one because it has pink in it and it is cushiony...perfect for putting on the floor for baby to lay on.
