Making My First Cardigan?!

I am so excited! That's right...I'm going to bite the bullet and make a cardigan for me!  I know...I'm crocheting something to wear...something fashionable, (I hope).

So, I picked out a pattern that is very popular on Ravelry and is "Easy" and...has no seams...and...is cute!

Chevron Lace Cardigan

by milobo

Isn't this the cutest sweater you ever saw?

I just hope I can make the right size and of course the right color and the right yarn! Well, for starters it calls for a "J" hook. Now that I can handle. I have a couple of "J" hooks so I think I'm ready!

Oh yes, the yarn choice. Well, I have this beautiful yarn I bought in Colorado on vacation last Summer. Cascade Yarns Hertage Silk in Vino..

I'm not sure the fingering weight will work since this is calling for a DK. So, we will see. I'm just gonna do it. Wish me luck and I will keep you updated as often as I can.

  2. Eileen! It's beautiful! I've been wanting to make a cardigan as well. Baby sweaters are one thing, but big girl sizes...that's a completely different adventure, eh? Can't wait to hear how it works out for you! I might just have to take the plunge too! Love, LOVE that sweater! Hugs, Annette P.S. Keep me posted!!!!!

    1. You are so right! Those baby sweaters were easy and that's what I was thinking about when I found this pattern, (great minds):) I thought if I can do those I can make me a sweater. We shall see! I will try and take pictures as I go and post them but...sometimes I'm just to lazy to go get the camera!

  3. Nice choices. I like the pattern. Maybe take the hook size down one since fingerling is lighter yarn and increase the size of the pattern to something bigger than you would wear. I think that would compensate for the changes and be gorgeous. I have made a lot of cardigans and I know you can do it and it will be so pretty. Have fun with it and I can't wait to see it.

  8. Hi, Eileen! I saw this cardigan on Ravelry, and liked it too:) However, I went for another small project, so that I could accomplish before New Year and wear it!
Don't worry, the cardigan will be nice if you understand the pattern right and follow gauge:) otherwise, alterations and other creative additions are always welcome! Happy crocheting!
    Happy coming up new Year!

    1. Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and well wishes on this new endeavor.

Anna-I didn't think of gauge? So simple and yet I might have forgotten. I'm a little worried about any alterations so maybe I won't have anything major by checking the gauge.

    2. Yes, gauge is necessary to check. what I was doing was trying the thing on many times as to see whether it's tight, loose, needs some more rows down, needs less sleeve length, according to my figure.it came out not bad, though slightly tighter than I expected.
I will post about this in my blog, so you can see what I finally came up with :)may be you can use the same pattern, if you wish.
